FLOTILLA
SAILING HOLIDAYS IN GREECE 2007 - as seen on TV.
Saronic Isles & Peloponnese |
|
|
|
Seafarer
is pleased to introduce our Greek
Isles Flotilla for 2007. Flotilla sailing
offers the excellent combination of having the privacy
and flexibility of chartering your own yacht with
the comfort of having on hand when needed, the advise
and assistance of our flotilla crew. For many the
social element of meeting up with like minded crews
from the other flotilla yachts after a good days sailing
in a scenic harbourside taverna is both reassuring
and fun. The flotilla broadly follows the itinerary
set by our skipper with the possibility of also doing
your own thing like swimming stop in a secluded bay.
You must have within your party a skipper qualified
to 'day skipper' level as well as another party member
with some crewing experience. If you need to obtain
a qualification before you go please ask about our
recommended sailing schools in the UK or the Med.
You will need to allow 2 weekends or 5 days to attend
an intensive training course.
Ideal
for those with limited sailing experience is our flotilla
training course for the first 3 days of your holiday.
You can benefit from private tuition from one of our
experienced sailing tutors. You will be issued with
a flotilla competence certificate at the end of the
course. |

GREECE SAILING
AREA |
|
The
conditions in then Saronic gulf and along the eastern
coast of the Peloponnese are ideal for sailing with
predictable and steady breezes over the day. Our flotillas
cover a northern or a southern route over the course
of a week. The northen route in the Saronic Gulf visits
the charming ports of Perdika,
Vathi, Palea Epidavros
and Korfos each boasting its own special character
and charm. The southern route visits the renown and
uniquely pretty islands of Hydra
& Spetses together with
the harbours of Ermioni, Astros
or Plaka. |
|
| PERDIKA
on Aegina's southern coast is a small, enchanting village
with a sandy beach and a sprinkling of excellent tavernas
overlooking the small harbour. Aegina is renowned for
its pistachios and ceramics. In Greek mythology Zeus
abducted the daughter of Asopos and transported her
to this then uninhabited island. If you have time, visit
the temple of Aphaia, at Agia Marina, a village also
known for its long sandy beach. |
| |
| METHANA
is an old established spa town famous for its warm sulphurous
spa where you can take the cure! Vathi, a very small
village on the other side of the peninsula is a firm
favourite with our flotilla and locals alike! |
| |
| ANGISTRI
a small island just south west of Aegina, retains its
simplicity which gives it a special appeal. The main
village offers a good selection of excellent tavernas
whilst on the other side there are some more secluded
anchorages with crystal clear waters. |
|
| PALEA
EPIDAVROS
nestled around a pretty natural harbour was once health
resort of the Ancient Greeks. There are abundant ancient
ruins here including the famous amphitheatre, which
still enjoys performances of ancient plays by the National
Theatre during the Epidauros festival. |
| |
| ERMIONI
is a fishing village and resort that has managed to
retain its unspoilt charm. There are excellent scenic
walks enjoying spectacular sea views. |
| |
| KHINITSA
is a tiny Island Just to the west of Porto Heli -no
larger than a full stop on the nautical chart -the
perfect setting for a Beach Party. |
|
| PLAKA
is small hamlet, famed for its sandy beach and fertile
valley. It is overlooked by the fascinating town of
Leonidhion high on the hills above, which is well worth
a visit. |
| |
| ASTROS
with the spectacular backdrop of the Parnon Mountains,
is an ideal haven with a medieval castle. Be sure to
try the reknowned local peaches and we recommend a visit
to the cliff face monastery of Moni Loukas. |
| |
| HYDRA
has become a haunt of the rich and famous. The busy
little port is uniquely picturesque overlooked by historic
mansions and colourful cottages rising up the hillsides
amphitheatrically. Motorised transport is banned so
you can explore the labyrinth of backstreets on foot
or by donkey. There are some exceptional restaurants
and tavernas, pricey but worth every penny! |
|
| SPETSES
is a lively holiday island that retains some of its
past splendour with its horse drawn carriages and neo
classical houses. We moore across the water at Porto
Heli, popular with water sports enthusiasts. Take a
water taxi to Spetses for dinner. Fish al la Spetsiosa,
the local speciality is not to be missed. |
|
| NAUPLION
the first capital of modern Greece is a historic town
crowned by a spectacular fortress and boasting many
historic buildings and museums. From her a trip to the
ancient ruined city of Mycenae. The nearby tiny and
tranquil fishing village of Haidhari is ideal for a
quiet overnight stop. |
